Madeleine Athletics

The school is very thankful for all of the families that are able to support Madeleine Athletics through the following…

Primary Madeleine Athletics fundraisers:

  • Fall – Membership/ Donation Drive
  • Winter – Snack Bar Sales (open during the peewee soccer season)
  • Spring – Annual Spring Golf Tournament (first Friday in May)
  • Throughout the school year – (online sales of Madeleine athletic/spirit wear)

Madeleine Athletics Fundraiser’s support:

  • All School of the Madeleine student-athletes that compete in the Catholic Sports League throughout the school year.
  • Facility enhancements (upkeep of grass field, basketball courts and track)
  • Purchase of athletic equipment (uniforms, balls, goals, paint & much more)

Annual School Grounds Cleanup:

  • Our annual ‘community cleanup day’ is scheduled in the fall.  Each year, we have a number of volunteers on campus to help freshen up things around the school… (including cutting back the ice plant/ brush, weeding, sweeping, cleaning, painting & more).  This is a great way for families to work together as a community and to earn some necessary service hours.  Supervised students are welcome to assist in the cleanup (Jr. High students can earn some of their service hours as well).

Thank you in advance for your generous giving of both ‘time and treasure’. If you have any questions, email moneal@schoolofthemadeleine.com in the PE office.

MISSION & PHILOSOPHY

The purpose of the After-School Sports Program is to teach and exemplify the basic human and Christian values of sportsmanship, cooperation and teamwork.   Its goal is to help foster friendships, provide leadership opportunities and help students develop a positive attitude towards sports and athletic competition.

School of the Madeleine’s after school athletic program is part of the Catholic Sports League of San Diego (www.catholicsportsleague.com) .  The league is competitive in nature and is responsible for scheduling games, providing referees, and securing playing facilities.  Within this league, each school determines their philosophy of the athletic program and eligibility policy for players.  Coaches are volunteers and are live scan approved through the Diocese of San Diego. The number of players who want to participate and availability of volunteer coaches determines the number of teams a school has in the program.

Because of its size, School of the Madeleine often has large teams making it difficult for coaches to manage.  The school does not believe in holding try-outs or cutting a child from the team.  It is the school’s belief that each child can benefit from the commitment of being a member of a team, practicing with friends, learning fundamentals, and experiencing camaraderie.  Volunteer coaches are instructed by the Athletic Director to provide playing time to as many students as possible during a game.  The amount of playing time is determined at the discretion of the coaches based on focus at practice, attitude, ability, and the circumstances of a particular game.

Practices are held after school on our campus. The day and exact times are determined by the coach & Athletic Director (typically 3:00-4:30). No students should be on campus unsupervised, so it is imperative that parents arrive prior to the end of your child’s practice.

The cost to participate in a particular sport is $60.00. Payment is to be turned in with the registration form.

Please see the Parent-Student Handbook for eligibility rules (concerning grades & behavior).  Parents and/or students who have questions or concerns must first make an appointment with the coach to discuss and resolve the issues.  If the parties have been unable to resolve the situation, the Athletic Director should be contacted for clarification or mediation.  The Athletic Director will notify the principal if there are still unresolved questions or concerns.
